The Lung Cancer Policy Network recently hosted a collaborative workshop with the Asia Pacific Coalition Against Lung Cancer during the Asia Conference on Lung Cancer.
During the event, more than 40 experts gathered to discuss the shared challenges and opportunities surrounding the implementation of lung cancer screening in the region. From these discussions, we produced a set of recommendations for advancing screening efforts:
- Improve awareness of lung cancer – and the importance of earlier detection – among policymakers, decision-makers and the public.
- Foster collaboration and shared learning across multi-stakeholder groups, bringing together policymakers, advocates and data from existing pilots and programmes to support policymakers in prioritising lung cancer.
- Initiate local research on the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of screening to inform decision-making.
- Take a systems approach to large-scale screening implementation, using data and lessons, to ensure that gaps in capacity are identified and addressed.
The Network is hopeful that these discussions will spark continued collaboration and drive lung cancer screening efforts throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all those who generously contributed their time and expertise to this important workshop.
