The Network is pleased to share priority actions for ensuring lung cancer screening is implemented optimally across Europe. These recommendations build on current policy commitments and existing programmes, and have been informed by discussions during our recent in-person panel discussion and networking event, From insights to impact: advancing lung cancer screening in Europe.
The event coincided with the European Lung Cancer Congress (ELCC) 2025, bringing together clinicians, academics, screening leads, data scientists and industry representatives. The Network hopes the event will contribute towards maintaining momentum around lung cancer screening, and encourage further collaboration across different countries and sections in Europe.
From the discussions, five key actions were identified for policymakers, health system decision-makers and stakeholders involved in screening across Europe:
- Embed screening into health systems.
- Collate and share data and research.
- Establish a skilled workforce.
- Utilise patient organisations and representatives.
- Leverage different funding sources and mechanisms.
By working together to make lung cancer a political priority, we believe these actions will help ensure screening is effectively implemented across the region – ultimately improving survival from lung cancer.
We extend a heartfelt thanks to everyone who generously gave their time to participate in the event, with special appreciation for the expert panellists (Dr Torsten Blum, Penilla Gunther, Merel Hennink, Professor Marie-Pierre Revel).
