Closing the gap: the role of global data in advancing lung cancer screening

This report explores how insights from global data can help drive the implementation of effective and equitable screening programmes for lung cancer.

Currently, uptake of low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) screening for lung cancer remains limited and inconsistent across the globe. This is despite decades of robust evidence indicating that these screening programmes can save lives by helping detect lung cancer at an earlier stage, which can significantly improve outcomes.

Drawing on data from the Network’s interactive map of lung cancer screening, the report spotlights the wealth of evidence, experience and innovation already available. We have sought to transform this knowledge into a resource that encourages decision-makers to harness what we already know from existing initiatives to support policy alignment, inform programme design and ultimately accelerate progress with screening programmes.

In addition to the Network’s interactive map, this work has been informed by an extensive review of the literature, and draws insights from Network members.

Highlighting real-world examples, policy developments and practical strategies, this report can support policymakers, screening leads, clinicians and advocates in translating evidence into action.
