Abhishek Shankar, MD,MBA is an assistant professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi, India. He is involved in many committees and organisations at both national and international levels.

Currently, Dr Shankar serves as Secretary General of the Asian Pacific Organization for Cancer Prevention (APOCP). He is also a core group member of the Asian National Cancer Centres Alliance (ANCCA), which represents 21 Asian countries. Additionally, Dr Shankar is a member of the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC) education committee as well as the survivorship and digital health study groups.

Dr Shankar is a working group member for the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) handbook on lung cancer screening, and a member of both the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) staging and prognostic factor group (SPFG) for thoracic cancers, and the IASLC tobacco control and smoking cessation committee. He is also a member of the ASPIRE (Asia Pacific Policy Review and Engagement) for Lung Cancer.

Dr Shankar works as member of the Lancet Ovarian Cancer Commission Patient Advisory Board. Dr Shankar serves as Chair of the advocacy committee and board member for the International Gynaecologic Cancer Society (IGCS) and chairs the International Gynaecological Cancer Advocacy Network of IGCS, and is the India Country Ambassador for the International Papillomavirus Society (IPVS). He is the Founder Secretary of the Indian Society of Clinical Oncology (ISCO). Dr Shankar also founded and acts as Chief Coordinator of  nationwide awareness campaigns such as the pink chain campaign.

Dr Shankar is actively involved in academic publishing and research. He is an associate editor of the Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention(APJCP) and the South Asian Journal of Cancer(SAJC), and Editor-in-Chief of the Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Care (APJCC). He has authored more than 141 peer-reviewed publications, including The LancetJCO Global OncologyTranslational Lung Cancer Research and Frontiers, with more than 11,000 citations. Dr Shankar has delivered more than 180 lectures in national and international conferences, is an National Cancer Institute (NCI) Cancer Prevention Fellow, and recipient of many national and international awards.
