Caleb Egwuenu

Caleb Egwuenu is a trailblazing patient research advocate and Executive Director who has transformed personal grief into a powerful force for public health change. After losing close family members to cancer – amid widespread misinformation and limited healthcare infrastructure in Nigeria – Caleb committed himself to dismantling harmful myths and addressing systemic gaps in cancer advocacy, screening and treatment access. His work is grounded in the belief that everyone, regardless of where they live or their socioeconomic status, deserves timely and dignified cancer care.

As the founder and Executive Director of MACA, he leads grassroots efforts to educate underserved communities, organise screening campaigns and support people with cancer emotionally and logistically. Caleb has also amplified his impact through global collaboration: as a graduate of the IASLC STARS program (Supportive Training for Advocates on Research and Science) and a board member of the International Kidney Cancer Coalition (IKCC), he brings the voice of African patients into international research and policy conversations.

His advocacy bridges the gap between clinical science and everyday lived experience, ensuring that cancer control strategies are inclusive, data-driven and responsive to local needs. Whether through policy influence, community-based interventions or international research engagement, Caleb continues to champion a vision of equity, dignity and evidence-informed care for people with cancer across Africa.
