Professor Røe’s main research interests have been a combination of clinical and basic cancer research (translational), including biomarkers for early detection of cancer, predictive and prognostic biomarkers, genome-wide analysis and mechanisms of treatment resistance. He has published 80+ peer reviewed papers on a variety of topics. Recent years his team developed the HUNT Lung Cancer Model, a validated risk prediction model for screening selection for lung cancer screening and motivation for smokers to quit smoking. He has further developed two models including blood biomarkers as microRNA and SNPs.
In 2010, Professor Røe worked as a visiting researcher at Nanjing Medical University. In 2013 he was appointed as a Clinical Associate Professor at the Department of Oncology in Aalborg, where he researched the impact of asbestos on mesothelioma. In 2018 he was appointed as a Professor at the Department of Clinical and Molecular Research, Norwegian University of Science and Technology and is a senior consultant oncologist at the Levanger Hospital Oncology Department.
