Dr Zulfiquer Otty is an academic Medical Oncologist, who currently has a substantial attachment at Townsville University Hospital and James Cook University as Senior staff Specialist in Medical Oncology & Clinical Lecturer, and part time commitment as Consultant Medical Oncologist at ICON Cancer Centre, Townsville. Dr Otty has particular interest in lung cancer, melanoma and head & neck cancers. As chair of the lung cancer multidisciplinary meeting , Dr Otty has implemented several reforms to improve the meeting outcomes.
Dr Otty is actively involved in research to improve outcomes of rural, remote and indigenous patients. He has published articles and presented in various national and international conferences on disparities of care between rural and urban patients. He is one of the members of the Townsville Tele Oncology Network which runs the QRECS tele- chemotherapy model.
Dr Otty is a member of Australian Lung cancer Screening Trials (ALST) group, IASLC, ALCC and TOGA. Dr Otty’s other area of research focuses on integrated health, looking at developing a common governance linking primary health care and tertiary specialist services to streamline cancer pathways. He is currently undertaking research in referral pathways for people with lung cancer and has enrolled as a doctoral candidate in James Cook University.
